Unicars EV Charging Network FAQs

The Unicars EV Charging Network is the largest privately-owned, publicly-accessible EV charging network in Cyprus, open to all electric vehicle brands.

Chargers within the Unicars EV Charging Network are strategically located near key destinations across the island, so you can conveniently charge your vehicle during your daily routine or while on the go.

1. General Information

We provide two main types of chargers:

  • AC Chargers (up to 22 kW)
Ideal for longer stops at locations such as shopping centers, hotels, and marinas. Many vehicles can add around 100–130 km of range in about one hour of AC charging.
  • DC Fast Chargers (25kW and above)
Perfect for quick, high-speed charging sessions. Many vehicles can add around 150–200 km of range in about 30 minutes on a DC fast charger.

Note: Actual charging time and range gained always depend on the vehicle model, battery size, current battery level and conditions.

Unicars Network charging stations are located across Cyprus at various key locations, including shopping malls and large retailers, selected hotels and marinas, and Unicars facilities.

Most chargers are in publicly accessible areas and available 24/7. Chargers within private areas follow the property’s operating hours.

You can view the locations on our interactive map or in the pcharge app.

In many locations, you will need the pcharge app:

  1. Download pcharge from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Register using an email address.
  3. Add a payment method (credit/debit card or mobile payment service).
  4. Use the app to locate chargers, initiate or stop charging, and track charging sessions.

In some locations, you can use the chargers without creating an account, for example:

  • By scanning a QR code on the charger
  • With a charging access card (RFID card) provided by the site owner (for example, at hotel reception)

2. Charging Process

Chargers in the Unicars EV Charging Network may carry Unicars branding, partner branding such as pcharge, or the branding of the location (for example, a shopping mall).

All of these chargers are part of the Unicars EV Charging Network. You can start a session using the options shown on the charger.

  1. Park your vehicle in the marked EV space and apply the parking brake.
  2. Connect your vehicle:
    • If the charger has a cable attached, plug it directly into your vehicle.
    • If the charger has a socket only, use your own charging cable to connect your vehicle to the charger.
  3. Start the session using one of the options displayed on the charger:
    1. Pcharge app: Select the charger in the app and tap “Start Charging”.
    2. QR code: Scan the QR code on the charger and follow the on-screen steps.
    3. Charging access card (RFID card): Use a charging access card provided by the site owner (for example, at hotel reception).

You can end your charging session using the same method you used to start it:

  • In the pcharge app: select the charger and tap “Stop charging”.
  • Use your charging access card (RFID card) again to end the session.

DC fast chargers may automatically stop once your vehicle reaches the set charge level. Always confirm via the app or charger screen before unplugging.

Yes. You can leave your vehicle while it is charging. Before leaving, make sure it is properly locked and that charging has started successfully.

If you are using the pcharge app, you can monitor the session remotely and see when charging is complete.

Once charging has finished, you must move your vehicle promptly so the charging space is available for other users.

3. Pricing and Payment

Charging costs vary by location and are set by the site owner, but they are usually based on:

  • Energy consumed (in kWh)
  • kWh cost (based on site owner’s policy, type of charger used – AC or DC fast charging)

Any additional fees are set by the site owner (for example, parking). The price per kWh and any applicable fees are shown before you start the session, either on the charger screen, in the pcharge app or after scanning the QR code.

Payment options depend on the location and how you start the session, but typically include:

  • Credit or debit cards (linked in the pcharge app or used after scanning a QR code)
  • Mobile payment services (such as Apple Pay or Google Pay) where supported

At some locations, charging may be offered free of charge. In these cases, this will be clearly indicated before you start charging.

If you use the pcharge app, you can view your full charging history, including:

  • Locations used
  • Session dates and durations
  • Energy consumed
  • Total cost per session

Receipts are available through the app and can be viewed, downloaded or sent to your email.

4. Technical and Safety Information

Yes. All chargers are weatherproof and certified for safe operation under various weather conditions. Safety features include automatic shutdown in case of malfunction, overheating, or other electrical issues.

If you experience a problem:

  1. Check that your vehicle is correctly parked and fully plugged in.
  2. Follow any on-screen instructions or error messages on the charger or in the app.
  3. Attempt to restart the charger via the app or on the charger unit.
  4. If the issue continues, use the support contact details shown on the charger.

If the charger is in a managed location (for example, a hotel), you can also ask at reception or the information desk for assistance.

Charging speed can be affected by several factors, including:

  • Battery state of charge – charging usually slows down as the battery gets closer to 100%.
  • Vehicle limits – each vehicle has a maximum charging speed it can accept, which may be lower than the charger’s power.
  • Type of charger – AC chargers are slower than DC fast chargers.
  • Battery temperature and conditions – very hot or very cold conditions can reduce charging speed to protect the battery.

5. Parking, Reservations, and Policies

At this stage, charging stations in the Unicars EV Charging Network cannot be reserved in advance and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

There is no time limit while your vehicle is actively charging. Once charging is complete, you must move your vehicle promptly, as EV charging spaces are exclusively reserved for vehicles that are actively charging.

Some locations (such as shopping malls, or hotels) may apply their own parking rules or overstay fees. Please follow any on-site signage or instructions.

6. Compatibility and Vehicle Questions

Unicars Network chargers support the most common connector types used in Europe:

  • Type 2 for AC charging
  • CCS (Combined Charging System) for DC fast charging

If you are unsure, you can check your vehicle manual or connector type before using the charger.

It depends on the type of charger:

  • AC chargers:
Some AC chargers have a cable attached, while others have a socket only.
At chargers with a socket, you will need to use your own Type 2 charging cable.
  • DC fast chargers:
DC fast chargers always have cables permanently attached, so you do not need to bring your own cable.

7. Unicars DC Fast Charging Hubs

Unicars operates dedicated DC fast chargers at the following hubs:

These chargers are open to the public and can be used by any compatible electric vehicle.

Using the DC fast chargers at the Unicars hubs is the same as using any other charger in the Unicars network:

  1. Park in the marked EV space and apply the parking brake.
  2. Plug in the DC fast charging cable attached to the charger.
  3. Start the session using one of the options shown on the charger:
    • The pcharge app
    • A QR code on the charger, or
    • A charging access card

Simply follow the instructions on the charger screen or in the app to start and stop your session. These chargers are open to the public and can be used by any compatible electric vehicle.
